Reading Specialist
As the Rock Prairie Reading Specialist, I have a variety of responsibilities, but the one that I find the most rewarding is being able to work with students in grades 2nd-4th to help them to become more proficient readers and writers. The importance of being a good reader cannot be underestimated. It is well known that good readers do better in school, so these students are provided research-based interventions in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and writing. It's my job to support, supplement, and extend the classroom teaching of our district's Reading and Writing curriculum. I also work with 3rd & 4th graders in the preparation of our state's high-stakes tests by teaching them strategies that will help them be more successful. As the Reading Specialist, I serve on many committees which monitor student progress. Assessing students plays a part in the monitoring of these students which is another one of my responsibilities. I assist in administering assessments to students at Rock Prairie as well as other campuses within College Station ISD. One of my other roles as the reading specialist is to aid in the development of curriculum and staff development that provide support to classroom teachers. I love my job and watching children become lifelong readers.
